Young Ralph D'Albis of New York is a prime example of a "True Trophy Bear Hunter". Ralph booked his first ever bear hunt in September 2005. On the first day of his bear hunt Ralph spoke these words "Larry. I didn't come here to shoot a small bear, I came here for a big bear. I know that your area has exceptionally big bear as my father has proven with his largest bear being mounted on a medium-sized grizzly mount. Our taxidermist told my father that this was the largest black bear that he has mounted to date and he was impressed with the size of bear your area holds.

I promise you that I will go home empty before I shoot a small bear".

Now that's tough for an adult to do on his or her first bear hunt; let alone a sixteen year old. Ralph did leave camp that year without a shot on a large bear. He impressed everyone in camp by not pulling the trigger! Ralph came back the following two years and scored on two large black bear (see photos above).

Kingbuck Safaris and the staff are very proud of this young and avid bear hunter and will continue to work hard to ensure that Ralph reaches his goal which is shooting a trophy black bear that is larger than his fathers'.

Now all you bear hunters, both young and old, on your next hunt, try to uphold young Ralph's motto: A true trophy bear hunter is one who can go home empty and let the smaller bears walk if you want a real big black bear".

Ralph, you are an accomplished bear hunter with great potential to become the next Bill Pace of Illinois who holds the record for Saskatchewan's heaviest black bear - 737 Lbs. shot at King Buck Safaris in 1998.

It is a pleasure having clients such as yourself who are respectful in allowing the younger bears to live, so that they can grow into large trophies. Joey Hernandez of Lousiana is a bear hunter who has attained a 100% kill rate with King Buck Safaris on Saskatchewan spring black bear hunts. For many bear hunters, judging a 400+ Lb. black bear in the wild is very difficult, but Joey proves his excellent judgement by his successful kills.

When Joey booked his first ever bear hunt in 2003, he stressed that he would like to be placed over a bear bait that holds a 300+ Lb. coloured bear. He also mentioned that he did not have to see a large number of bear on his six day hunt.

On subsequent hunts with King Buck Safaris, Joey always hunted baits that held less bears than his hunting buddies. The above photos are proof of Joey's success in using this type of strategy!

Joey's famous words seem to ring true..
"I only have to see one bear on my six day hunt.. the right one"!

This year, 2006. was a slow year due to the very late rut in both Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan also received a heavy snowfall the last week of November which prevented us from utilizing tree stands which were located deep in the Provincial forest. Many of these tree stands did not see a hunter this season which means the bucks will be bigger next year.

* This impressive Whitetail (8x8) was taken in the same area as the Typical 7x7 which was wounded by Charles Nicosia (work # 718-798-0201) some 5 years ago. This 7x7 Whitetail is on video and it has 12-13" G2, G3, G4 & G5. All tines are straight across the top. Not fifteen minutes after Joe Lurch shot his 8x8, he saw another large 5x5 Buck with 12" G2 and G3 which he figures would have scored in the 170's.

Hunters... with genes like these running around our area, the chance for a new world record is very possible! According to Greg Hopf's discussions with North American Whitetail, this Typical 8x8 may very well be the first ever recorded! An article on this Whitetail may be published by North American Whitetail in their next September or October issue, so watch out for it on the magazine stands.

Always remember:
"RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME, AREA and PATIENCE" are the main keys to obtaining any TROPHY.

In 12 straight years of bear hunting with King Buck Safaris, Bill Pace of St. David, Illinois (309-224-1447) has harvested 5 bears over 500 lbs. His wife Rosie has taken 3 bears over 400 lbs. King Buck Safaris has found Bill to be one of North America's premier bear hunters who can really judge the size of bears with great success and who maintains a 100% kill ratio on bears over 300 lbs.

To add to Bill's prestige is the fact that he holds Saskatchewan's record for the heaviest spring bear ever harvested - in 1998 with a weight of 737 Lbs. The skull of this giant measured 21&12/16 B/C and the rig squared out at 8'2" - excellent for a black bear, considering that grizzly's square out in the 8' range.

Any hunter who is serious about harvesting huge black bears should consider Manitoba as their #1 hunting destination. Manitoba is well known for it's well managed bear population and Manitoba record books have proven themselves with the most harvested 21" B/C skulls. Articles about Manitoba Black Bear have been published by every hunting magazine known.
Manitoba holds the WORLD RECORD for the heaviest black bear at 860 Lbs., harvested in 2001.
